Bidhannagar Mayor Krishna Chakraborty resigns, another massive blow to TMC
Gujarat governor Acharya Devvrat has been given additional charge of Maharashtra following the election of CP Radhakrishnan as the vice president of India. The announcement came shortly after Radhakrishnan officially demitted his role as Maharashtra’s governor.
On September 9, CP Radhakrishnan, the Bharatiya Janata Party-led NDA candidate, defeated INDIA bloc nominee and former Supreme Court judge B Sudershan Reddy in the vice presidential elections, securing 452 votes against 300. His victory created a vacancy in the Maharashtra Raj Bhavan, which has now been temporarily filled by Acharya Devvrat.
Acharya Devvrat has been serving as governor of Gujarat since July 2019 and earlier held the office of Himachal Pradesh’s governor from 2015 to 2019. A scholar of history, Hindi, and yoga science, he is also known for his lectures on Vedic philosophy, natural farming, and education reforms. Currently, he is the chancellor of several major universities in Gujarat, including Gujarat University and Sardar Patel University.
With this new responsibility, Devvrat will be overseeing both Gujarat and Maharashtra until a permanent appointment is made by the central government.
